What Plan G Covers
Plan G generally covers Part A coinsurance and additional hospital days, Part B coinsurance, the first three pints of blood, Part A hospice cost sharing, skilled nursing facility coinsurance, the Part A deductible, Part B excess charges, and 80% of eligible foreign-travel emergency costs up to plan limits.
What You Pay
You pay the monthly Plan G premium, the annual Medicare Part B deductible, your Part B premium, prescription drug costs, and services Medicare does not cover.
Why People Choose Plan G
Plan G can offer broad provider access and predictable Medicare-covered medical expenses. It may appeal to frequent travelers, beneficiaries who see specialists, and people who prefer fewer point-of-service copays.
Prescription Drugs Are Separate
Plan G does not include outpatient prescription drug coverage. Enroll in a standalone Part D plan unless you have other creditable coverage.
Plan G vs. Plan N
Plan G generally has a higher premium but covers Part B excess charges and does not use Plan N’s permitted office and emergency-room copays. Compare the premium savings against expected care use.
When to Enroll
Your six-month Medigap Open Enrollment Period generally begins when you are 65 or older and enrolled in Part B. Outside protected rights, medical underwriting may apply.
Compare Companies, Not Just Benefits
Because Plan G benefits are standardized, compare premium, rate history, household discount, financial strength, customer service, application rules, and billing options.
