Do I Really Need to Get Part B?

Part B helps pay for doctor visits, outpatient care, preventive services, medical equipment, testing, and more. Without Part B, you may be responsible for the full cost of these services.

  • Part B is generally required to enroll in Medicare Advantage.
  • Part B is normally needed for Medicare Supplement coverage to work as intended.
  • Delaying Part B without qualifying coverage may cause a lasting late-enrollment penalty.

Do I Need a Drug Plan if I Don’t Take Any Medicines?

Even when you do not currently take medications, prescription drug coverage can protect you from future costs and help you avoid enrollment penalties.

  • Your health and medication needs can change unexpectedly.
  • Going without creditable drug coverage may result in a late-enrollment penalty.
  • You may have to wait for an eligible enrollment period to obtain coverage.
  • A lower-premium Part D plan may provide protection for future needs.
