What You Need to Know

How the Deductible Works

You pay Medicare-covered deductibles, coinsurance, and copays until your eligible out-of-pocket spending reaches the annual high deductible. Afterward, the policy pays according to Plan G benefits for the rest of the calendar year.

2026 High Deductible

The federal high deductible for Plan G is $2,950 in 2026. The amount can change each year. Your monthly policy premium generally does not count toward the deductible.

What Counts

Eligible Medicare-covered deductibles, coinsurance, and copayments generally count. Costs for services Medicare does not cover, prescription drugs, routine dental, routine vision, and the policy premium generally do not.

Who May Consider It

It may fit beneficiaries who want broad Original Medicare provider access, can comfortably absorb the deductible, use relatively little care, and prefer a lower monthly premium.

Risk to Consider

A hospital stay, outpatient procedure, therapy, imaging, or repeated specialist visits can create substantial early-year expenses. Budget for the full deductible every year.

After the Deductible

Once the annual high deductible is met, the plan provides regular Plan G standardized benefits for eligible expenses through December 31. The deductible resets each calendar year.

Part D Is Still Separate

High-Deductible Plan G does not include outpatient prescription drug coverage. Consider a standalone Part D plan.
